Types Of Dentures

Cirocco Dental Center has plenty of experience implementing numerous types of dentures to fit the needs of our patients. We’ll be sure to give you a denture solution custom designed for you, so you can have a brand new set of teeth that looks as close as possible to your original teeth.

Dentures have come a long way since the time George Washington was busy fighting for freedom with false teeth made from elephant and walrus ivory. We offer three types of dentures for our patients to fit the varying needs of different types of missing teeth.

Conventional full dentures involve removing all of the teeth in your mouth and giving your gums and tissue time to heal before placing the dentures. During the healing process, which can take a few months, you will be without teeth as your gums heal.

This type of dentures also involves removing all of your teeth, but before doing so our dentist will take measurements and have dentures fitted to your mouth beforehand. Then, when your teeth are removed, the dentures will be placed in your mouth immediately. The benefit of immediate full dentures is that you won’t be without teeth following the removal of your natural teeth. Immediate full dentures require a follow-up appointment with your dentist because the shape of your change bone will change as your mouth heals, requiring your dentures to be tightened.

Partial dentures are used when not all of your teeth have to be removed. Instead of being fixed to your teeth like a bridge, partial dentures can be removed since they are not permanently attached.

How To Care For Dentures

All types of dentures need regular care for two primary reasons: to avoid future oral health problems and to extend the life of the dentures as well.

To clean the dentures themselves, they should be brushed just like regular teeth and soaked in water or a denture-cleaning solution overnight. You should also brush your gums, tongue and palate just as you regularly would to keep your mouth nice and clean.
